As a Principal Engineer, you will be pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation of our shared services, exhibiting exceptional interpersonal, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills. Your role will involve coordinating activities across various teams to meet both business and technical objectives, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery. You will work with engineering, operations, security, and business teams to define strategies, manage metrics, and maintain consistency. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise, effectively communicate functionalities, and demonstrate a strong commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Operational Leadership: Serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day shared services operations, ensuring smooth and efficient team performance
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with infrastructure stakeholders to identify operational gaps and requirements, ensuring alignment with business needs
  • Service Level Metrics: Define, implement, and monitor service level metrics for critical services across shared and infrastructure services
  • Incident Management: Oversee the analysis and resolution of critical incidents, conducting thorough post postmortems to prevent future occurrences and ensure continuous operational improvement
  • Security Compliance: Act as the primary contact for implementing and maintaining security compliance and controls, including vulnerability identification and remediation
  • Benchmark Configurations: Ensure secure benchmark configurations are developed, implemented, and maintained across all critical systems and services
  • Technology Research: Continuously research and evaluate new technologies to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency
  • Strategic Planning: Provide input and support for long-term strategic planning initiatives, aligning with organizational goals
  • Network Architecture: Offer expert guidance on network architecture and design, ensuring robust and scalable solutions
  • Documentation: Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for processes, procedures, and configurations
  • Mentorship: Lead and mentor junior engineers and team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor and analyze system performance, implementing improvements as necessary
  • Capacity Planning: Conduct capacity planning to ensure infrastructure can meet current and future demands
  • Vendor Management: Collaborate with vendors and service providers to ensure optimal service delivery and support

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in IT infrastructure and operations
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Effective collaboration, ability to work with teams of people toward organizational goals
  • Self-motivated and driven to produce high-quality results
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage cross-functional teams
  • Strong knowledge of security compliance and control frameworks
  • Expertise in network architecture and infrastructure management
  • Experience with incident management and resolution
  • Proficiency in research and evaluation of new technologies

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with tools like Terraform, Python, Grafana, and Splunk
  • Experience with cloud platforms and virtualization technologies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule

The pay range is $176,300 - $238,500. 

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
