Position Overview:

The Distributed Clean Energy Advisory team is responsible for managing the client relationship throughout the lifecycle of an engagement. The team works as a partner to the client’s internal energy and sustainability teams – analyzing the client’s electricity portfolio to evaluate the opportunities for distributed generation, educating stakeholders and executives, developing a cohesive strategy and project plan, coordinating internally to execute on the project plan, assisting in project selection and commercial discussions, and supporting executive approvals of a definitive agreement. The Director is responsible for leading global distributed energy advisory strategy, leading the distributed generation team located in the US and Europe, and supporting Trio’s clients seeking onsite/near site solar, storage, fuel cells, or other emerging technologies. The Director works closely with global cross-functional Trio teams to support business development and client delivery strategy to meet their sustainability and financial goals. The Director will be involved in the direct delivery of strategy support for Trio’s highest value engagements, and will support, train, and mentor the other members of the Distributed Clean Energy team’s advisory activities.

The Director will utilize their experience with implementing distributed generation projects for commercial and industrial companies to enhance Trio’s offerings for distributed generation and grow the team’s geographic and technological expertise. The role will lead process improvements to gain efficiencies in client delivery and create new offerings to support areas such as supply chain decarbonization and increased community impact through distributed generation.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead new business growth strategy for expanding into new markets or technologies and developing new client offerings to support distributed generation implementation at scale
  • Manage team of Distributed Clean Energy Advisors and Analysts, including supporting/facilitating team education, career development, administrative tasks, and more efficient team processes.
  • Coordinate workload across Managers and Analysts
  • Grow Trio’s global distributed generation advisory capabilities through opportunity identification, team development, and hiring to expand the team’s expertise and bandwidth
  • Help Distributed Clean Energy Advisory team in delivering high quality, timely, and value-add services to clients.
  • Attend key client meetings to provide assistance to Manager and Analyst leads
  • Manage developer relationships directly and via facilitating these interactions among the Distributed Clean Energy Advisory team. Encourage more direct communication, knowledge sharing, and ideation of solutions for our clients.
  • Creating well-defined processes and standards for consistency across client engagements
  • Supporting sales and business development efforts by understanding key client needs, creating proposals, participating in sales meetings, and helping to develop go-to-market strategies for additional revenue opportunities
  • Developing strong relationships across other Trio teams to foster a collaborative and effective work environment
  • Continuing to build external brand and SME status by participating in webinars, conference, etc.
  • Lead high priority initiatives for the Distributed Clean Energy team, including process optimization and continuous improvement.
  • Work cross-functionally with multiple internal Trio teams to ensure cohesive and high-quality solutions to clients.
  • Identify and structure opportunities capitalizing on short term market incentives that may arise for the benefit of our clients (e.g., newly created programs).
  • Desired Background:

  • 10+ years of renewable energy experience at any of the following: energy management team at a corporation or institution dealing with distributed generation strategies, renewable project developer focused on distributed generation, renewable energy consultancy/advisor
  • Detailed understanding of distributed clean energy projects including the development, financing, and construction of onsite and community solar, battery storage, and fuel cells
  • Experience supporting strategy execution and implementation for distributed generation at commercial or industrial companies
  • Detailed understanding of power purchase agreements (PPAs) for renewable energy
  • Comprehensive understanding of wholesale and retail energy markets, renewable energy development and financing, and corporate energy procurement strategies
  • Required Skills:

  • Must have a demonstrated knowledge of PPAs and corporate renewable energy procurement
  • Must be a strong communicator, both in writing and in presentation skills, as the role involves significant client interaction  
  • Must possess strong analytical skills to understand energy market fundamentals and translate data into commercial strategies and advice for clients  
  • Must be highly organized and able to manage multiple client deals in parallel  
  • Must enjoy diving into contracts and detailed commercial terms   
  • Must have experience building and leading teams
  • Salary Statement:

    Trio Advisory offers a competitive and comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. 

    The listed salary range represents Trio Advisory’s good faith estimate for this position and represents the minimum and maximum for new hire salaries across all U.S. locations.  An employee’s rate of pay within the range is determined based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to geographic location and demonstrated performance over time. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.  Please keep in mind that the range stated above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.

    Trio Advisory reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, or federal law. You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
