The “Podcast Mission” is the product and technology team at Spotify responsible for building the best-in-class tools for podcast creators. We own the platforms, tools, and features that deliver a great creator experience, allowing podcasters to host, create, and distribute their episodes while making money from their art and growing and engaging with their audience. Our team is also responsible for helping creators grow their audiences. We build tools across several Spotify platforms, including S4P, Megaphone, and Chartable.

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our tight-knit and collaborative team. You will use your strong backend engineering and data skills to build and launch the next generation of our audience growth tools. Above all, your work will impact the way creators grow and engage with their audience.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with key internal partners to determine how to scalably design backend systems and APIs.
  • Architect, develop, and operate Java services deployed to millions of users.
  • Be a technical leader and valued contributor in an autonomous, cross-functional agile team.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, product owners, and designers to identify and solve challenging problems, creating awesome music sessions for users worldwide.
  • Be a leader of the Spotify-wide backend developer community affecting and driving our architecture across the company.
  • Who You Are

  • You have 5+ years of working experience as a Backend Engineer working with Java. Experience with gRPC, GCP, BigQuery, Bigtable is a plus. Although not required for your day-to-day work, experience with PostgreSQL, Ruby on Rails, Typescript and React is also a plus.
  • You have experience working directly with stakeholders to understand, document, and develop APIs and systems to meet their requirements, driving increased adoption and reducing reliance on custom one-off implementations.
  • You have written distributed, high-volume services and know how to deploy and keep them running in production.
  • You have an interest in the podcast industry and building products to solve podcasters’ biggest challenges.
  • You love working in an environment where you constantly experiment and iterate quickly.
  • You believe data is the most powerful tool for informed decision-making.
  • You have a deep understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Where You'll Be

  • We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! For this role, you can be within any timezone from Eastern (UTC -5:00) to Pacific (UTC -8:00) as long as we have a work location.
  • Additional Information

    The United States base range for this position is $ 156,275- $ 223,250, plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays. These ranges may be modified in the future.
