- Provide strategic legal advice to product, engineering, and business teams on payment products and infrastructure.
- Advise on payment regulations, AML/BSA, and card network rules for US and international use.
- Draft, negotiate, and manage complex commercial agreements with processors, banks, and payment partners.
- Partner with Compliance, Risk, and Product Ops to develop scalable policies and controls.
- Support expansion of payment products into new jurisdictions, including cross-border licensing.
- Collaborate with Business Development on strategic financial partnerships and integrations.
π― Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) and active membership in at least one US jurisdiction (CA or NY preferred).
- 8+ years in top law firm and/or in-house, including 3+ years advising on payments/fintech.
- Deep understanding of payments law and infrastructure, including card networks, money transmission, and merchant acquiring.
- Proven experience negotiating commercial and technology agreements with financial institutions, processors, or payment partners.
- Strong familiarity with US and international regulatory frameworks, including PSD2, AML, and consumer finance regulations.
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, product-driven environment with non-legal stakeholders.
