📋 Description

• Set the vision and strategy for the Efficacy Research Lab across languages, math.
• Lead end-to-end efficacy research: framing questions, design, data, analysis, and results.
• Act as player-coach to 3 researchers; set priorities and guide work.
• Partner with Product, Learning Design, and leadership to inform product strategy and learner outcomes.
• Build and manage external research partnerships; oversee proposals and deliverables.
• Represent Duolingo externally as a thought leader in learning science and efficacy research.

🎯 Requirements

• PhD in education/learning sciences or related field; 12+ years.
• Led ambitious programs evaluating educational products.
• Strong peer-reviewed publications or influential outputs.
• Expertise in rigorous applied research; RCTs and quasi-experiments.
• Industry judgment; apply high scientific standards in product settings.
• Deep understanding of learning; connect outcomes to mechanisms.
• Exceptional communication across researchers, executives, and external audiences.
• Advanced quantitative skills; fluent in R or Python; SQL and large datasets.
• People leadership; experience managing and developing researchers.
• Operational strength; highly organized; able to lead multiple initiatives.
