Who We Are

At Framework, we believe the time has come for products that are designed to last. Founded in San Francisco in 2019, our mission is to remake Consumer Electronics to respect people and the planet.

We've started with two award-winning products, the Framework Laptop 13 and 16. Our laptops are thin, light, high-performance notebooks that can be upgraded, customized, and repaired in ways that no other notebook can. Alongside this, we've launched the Framework Marketplace to enable an ecosystem of parts and modules. We've seen a fantastic reception to both of our laptops from customers and reviewers from outlets like Linus Tech Tips, Ars Technica, and multiple Wirecutter reviews (including a recommendation among the best Windows Ultrabooks of 2024), along with making TIME's Best Inventions lists in 2021 and 2023. As a company, we were #35 on Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies of 2022.

We come from successful consumer electronics startups including the founding team of Oculus, and have closed multiple rounds of funding to fuel our roadmap. Even better (and maybe unusually for an early stage startup), we're in a financially healthy position going forward off of our product revenue. We care deeply about building a diverse and inclusive team, and we hope you do too!

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer based in Taiwan to join our fantastic engineering team to maintain the current and shape the future of Framework products. We are specifically looking for a mechanical engineer who has out-box design thinking and spirit of taking the design challenge and problem solving ability. Due to the physical modularity of our products, the mechanical design may encounter unique design challenges that are extremely important for fulfilling the company mission. As our key engineering member in Taiwan, you'll also have a high level of influence on our product development going forward with your expertise.

This is a full-time position working flexibly from home or in our office in Xinyi Dist in Taipei, and may require local and international travel to suppliers and our headquarter in San Francisco.

What You'll Do

  • Manage and oversee the ODMs and external partners on our sustaining products
  • Drive the incremental improvements on our products to achieve the excellence of product quality and durability.
  • Own the mechanical design on the module level from initial ideation through prototyping, NPI, documentation, and into production on key parts of our product roadmap.
  • Design parts and assemblies across 3D CAD and 2D drawings.
  • Work with our designers and engineers in both Taiwan and the US on cross-functional product development on novel products.
  • Partner with our design team to develop, mock up, and test prototypes to explore new product concepts and solve design challenges as they come up.
  • Manage DFM, NPI builds, and DOEs with our manufacturing partners.
  • Proactively track and experiment with new technologies, processes, and suppliers to improve our products.
  • What You Need

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering for complex electronics products.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • A background in driving the mechanical development of a product from initial concept through production.
  • A strong skill set in mechanical design in CAD, including tolerance analysis, FEA, and other simulation.
  • Experience with plastic injection molding, metal injection molding, die casting, forming, extrusion, high volume CNC, and other mass production processes.
  • Expertise designing parts, assemblies, and enclosures in plastics and metals, and bringing up tooling, managing final assembly, and running reliability testing around them.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with other engineers and program managers.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication abilities and familiarity with working across time-zones.
  • What's Nice to Have

  • A passion for environmentalism and/or DIY.
  • Expertise with mechanical engineering and product design in a startup.
  • Familiarity with designing and integrating electromechanical assemblies like displays, batteries, cables, and input modules.
  • Experience working as a remote member of an international team.
  • The expertise on 3D printing software
  • What You'll Love

  • Competitive salary, equity, and health benefits
  • Paid company holidays plus 20 vacation days per year
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Annual Health Checks
  • Flexible work hours and locations, including every other Monday off!
  • The chance to work at a startup that is making a positive social and environmental impact.
