Hybrid position (1 day/week in Los Angeles HQ office and 4 days/week remote).

The Regional Director of Development will be joining CORE during a time of exponential growth as we build out our national fundraising strategy. We are looking for a candidate will have a visionary and entrepreneurial approach that is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment to support an international development strategy. The Director will work closely with the AVP of Development and the Sr. Leadership Team to create and implement a comprehensive development strategy to grow philanthropic revenue from individuals, corporations, and foundations in support of CORE’s mission and vision.

Responsibilities:

  • The Director will be responsible for achieving a personal fundraising goal of $4M+, to support a $12M+ department, with expectations for significant growth over the next 3 years. The Director will manage all major gift fundraising in the western region, which includes a portfolio of our top high-investment markets with a primary focus on building a comprehensive strategy and stewarding the donor base in California.
  • The Director will collaborate with peers and colleagues across the country, aligning with our senior leadership team’s strategic plan while helping to lead major gift markets. As a spokesperson for CORE, this candidate will demonstrate an ability and understand the nuances and inter-relationships between various stakeholders including key influential people, government officials, executive leaders, and talent.
  • Fundraising & Special Events

  • Develop a multi-year fundraising plan in collaboration with the following departments – Communications & Marketing and Partnerships & Programs – to ensure there is a comprehensive and consistent strategy aligned with CORE’s strategic plan.
  • Create, develop, and lead targeted events for prospects and donors. This may include cultivation dinners, virtual events, or other formats that will education, inspire, and engage prospects and our donor community.
  • Using a data-driven approach, identify and strengthen a robust pipeline of prospects and corporate partners to support sustainable revenue generation in emerging areas.
  • Assess development activities and identify areas with potential for short- and long-term growth with measurable KPIs and growth goals for each fundraising channel to be delegated among members of the development team.
  • Support the Special Events Team and Executive Leadership Team in all major fundraising events and campaign revenue drivers.
  • Drive revenue for special events by leading the strategy around acquisition, retention, and stewardship around our high-level committees while making asks to raise individual and corporate sponsorship.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the country to implement a strategy for pursuing collaborative joint funding opportunities across international, national, regional, and local levels.
  • This position will also feed into ongoing emergency response efforts through identifying and activating fundraising strategies which include corporate giving, in-kind donations, and engagement opportunities with prospective donors.
  • Major Gifts & Foundations

  • Establish, maintain, and manage a portfolio of 100+ new and existing individual, foundation, and corporate donors.
  • Drive the expansion of the major gifts program in their designated market areas while partnering closely with the AVP of Development to support donations of $100,000+
  • Pull, analyze, and present giving/donor reports to the development team, leadership team, C-Suite, and high-level board members and partners.
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships – both corporate and foundation – to generate a pipeline of six and seven-figure prospects. This excludes relationships, as well as donors, who are government agencies, diplomatic and political organizations.
  • Responsible for implementing best practices around CORE’s annual donor acknowledgement and recognition strategy.
  • Develop marketing and communications materials while writing fundraising and corporate sponsorship pitch decks, proposals, and grants.
  • Operations & Management Support

  • This position will also work with Finance and other departments to strengthen and improve the different systems related to donations received, tax acknowledgements, and any other policies around donations.
  • Oversee budget development and the financial planning process to ensure to ensure there is a high-level of accountability and successful ROI on all active campaigns.
  • Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects which include programs such as Salesforce, Pardot, and Classy.
  • Maintain a database and establish protocols and organize best practices for Salesforce - including building staff capacity to increase and maximize utilization. Track progress on development and asks related to CORE’s programs, activities, and strategic goals. Work with the Finance team to coordinate and track all donations anticipated and received.
  • Fosters collaboration and communication within the department and cross-functional teams within the organization to ensure that that fundraising initiatives are clear and there is a shared understanding of our programmatic vision.
  • Additional responsibilities and duties as necessary or as requested by the Associate Vice President of Development.

    Scope and Travel:

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25%
  • Qualifications:

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in business administration, business development, nonprofit management and development, client service, account management or related field.
  • Experience:

  • Minimum of 5+ fundraising experience, preferably within a high-level non-profit organization
  • Strong preference for a candidate that has strong connections to the LA/Southern California philanthropic community.
  • Ideal candidate will have a sophisticated understanding of the regional landscape and a background in major gifts fundraising in a high-investment market such as Los Angeles, New York, or San Francisco
  • Progressive experience in a leadership role with a track record of success and commitment in operations, strategic planning, and program delivery.
  • Proven track record of soliciting and securing six- and seven-figure gifts (one time and multi-year) with year over year growth in their revenue goals.
  • History of managing a robust portfolio of prospects and donors and moving them through the fundraising cycle
  • Strong verbal communication, writing, and editing skills with the ability to turn complex concepts into an executable strategy for lay audiences.
  • Experience in building authentic relationships and the ability to connect with people from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Relationship with funders in the public health, climate resilience, and emergency response causes desired.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite. Experience in a CRM software preferred, especially Salesforce or Raisers Edge, as well as a demonstrated ability to learn technology and systems quickly
  • Skills and Competencies:

  • Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to use sound reasoning and judgment to resolve issues.
  • Ability to build strong relationships at all levels of the organization.
