Principal Machine Learning Data Scientist, Gen AI

Overview

Xometry is seeking a Principal Machine Learning Data Scientist, Gen AI to lead the strategic development of Generative AI initiatives. In this role you will design scalable ML solutions, mentor the team, and partner with product, engineering, and data stakeholders to deliver impactful AI features.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of Gen AI models and ML systems that power Xometry's products and platform.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, data scientists, and design teams to translate business problems into ML solutions.
• Own model lifecycle: data collection, experimentation, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and iterative improvement.
• Mentor and grow a high-performing ML team; contribute to recruiting and technical leadership.
• Ensure governance, privacy, security, and compliance aspects in model design and data usage.
• Communicate results and trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders and influence product strategy.
• Stay up-to-date with Gen AI advances and evaluate new tools and frameworks.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in CS, Data Science, Statistics, or related field (PhD preferred) or equivalent industry experience.
• 8+ years of experience in machine learning/data science; strong background in Gen AI and NLP.
• Proficiency in Python and experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow; strong ML engineering skills.
• Experience deploying production ML systems in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) and MLOps practices.
• Demonstrated ability to work with large datasets, data pipelines, and scalable architectures.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Passion for shipping high-impact AI solutions and driving business outcomes.
