Overview

Xometry is hiring an Application Engineer, Injection Molding to support our customers and product engineering teams. This full-time, hybrid role based in North Bethesda, MD focuses on applying injection molding expertise to deliver manufacturable, cost-effective solutions. You will work with customers to understand requirements, advise on mold design, material selection, process parameters, and tolerance analysis, and help drive successful quotes and production launches. The role involves collaborating with engineering, sales, and manufacturing partners to optimize processes, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts. A background in mechanical engineering with hands-on experience in plastic injection molding, GD&T, and CAD tools is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with customers to capture injection molding requirements and translate them into feasible manufacturing solutions.
  • Advise on material selection, mold design, process parameters, cycle times, and tolerances to optimize manufacturability and cost.
  • Support technical quotes and project handoffs to manufacturing; assist sales with technical documentation.
  • Analyze tooling, tooling life, quality issues, and implement corrective actions.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Engineering, QA, Manufacturing, Sales) to ensure design-for-manufacture and robust launches.
  • Provide training and knowledge transfer to internal teams and customers as needed.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and new molding technologies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in plastic injection molding or related manufacturing processes.
  • Strong understanding of mold design principles, materials, process parameters, GD&T, and quality control.
  • Experience with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and basic simulation/tools is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, customer-facing skills, and ability to work in a cross-functional environment.
