Staff Machine Learning Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Staff Machine Learning Engineer on the Applied AI team is a seasoned technical expert focused on building, deploying, and optimizing machine learning and other artificial intelligence systems that turn cutting-edge research into impactful solutions. As a key collaborator with Data Scientists, you will design and implement production-level ML/AI systems that scale business value. You’ll be responsible for creating robust, maintainable pipelines, enhancing performance, and ensuring our AI/ML solutions are seamlessly integrated into VTEX's products. This is a hands-on engineering role that requires deep technical skills and also business value orientation to translate complex problems into simple solutions to meet time to market.

ABOUT THE TEAM

You will be part of our Applied AI team, the team responsible for framing strategic business problems leveraging AI solutions across VTEX. Working alongside Data Scientists, Data Engineers and other roles, you will lead efforts to frame, design, implement, deliver and measure AI/ML solutions seizing opportunities for our customers and business.

WHO YOU ARE

• You have experience in building end-to-end ML pipelines: training, evaluation, optimization, deployment and monitoring, working closely with Data Scientists;

• You are proficient in writing production-level code using best practices in software engineering to develop low-latency and high-throughput APIs;

• You are skilled at integrating ML models with larger software systems, considering sync and async architectures and CI/CD aspects necessary to scale models in production;

• You have strong communication skills to effectively listen from diverse points of view and offer guidance clarifying the problem and navigating trade-offs between solutions;

• You enjoy collaboration and supporting colleagues when building products that customers love;

• You thrive working with peers engineers, product managers and other stakeholders to meet business expectations and deliver high-impact solutions;

• Someone with academic background preferably in Engineering courses, such as Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related fields.

• • Experience in Search, Recommendation or Ads;

  • Familiarity with frameworks for deploying Generative AI, such as AWS Bedrock, LangChain, CrewAI, or LlamaIndex;

  • Strong knowledge about AWS cloud for AI.
