Job Summary
We’re looking for a senior data leader who operates at a director level but prefers to stay deeply hands-on. You will own the entire data ecosystem — warehouse, pipelines, modeling, semantic layer, BI foundations, and internal data applications. This role shapes the company’s data strategy while building high-quality, scalable systems that power decision-making across every team.
Own the end-to-end data ecosystem, from raw data ingestion to curated, trusted datasets powering analytics and business intelligence.
Architect, implement, and scale data pipelines and warehouse infrastructure to support rapid growth and evolving data requirements.
Lead the design, development, and maintenance of core Looker/LookML models, ensuring clarity, reliability, and performance of business metrics.
Define and evolve the semantic layer, including source-of-truth dimensions, measures, and business logic used across the organization.
Partner with engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders to translate strategic business goals into technical data architecture and modeling decisions.
Build and enhance internal data applications, services, and tools supporting analytics, reporting, and operational workflows.
Implement rigorous data quality, governance, monitoring, and alerting across all layers of the data stack.
Establish standards and best practices for data modeling, ETL/ELT orchestration, and business intelligence development.
Act as a technical mentor and architectural influencer across engineering teams, guiding decisions without formal personnel management.
Senior technical leader who prefers designing and shipping impactful systems rather than managing teams.
Strong passion for data modeling, semantic layers, and building clean, consistent, high-performance structures.
Ability to switch seamlessly between infrastructure, data modeling, and BI layers.
Motivation to design resilient, scalable data systems aligned with business growth.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business clarity.
Belief that data must be accessible, understandable, and actionable across the company.
8+ years of experience in data infrastructure, analytics engineering, or backend engineering.
Deep hands-on experience with modern data warehouses (Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, or similar).
Expert-level SQL skills and strong proficiency with Python.
Proven experience owning and scaling Looker LookML and semantic layers.
Experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT pipelines and orchestration workflows (e.g., Apache Airflow or similar).
Strong background in data modeling, data architecture, and performance optimization.
Experience with distributed systems and cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
Demonstrated ability to set technical direction, influence architecture, and collaborate across engineering and business teams.
Excellent communication skills for partnering with executives, analysts, engineers, and cross-functional teams.
