Staff Software Engineer, Data Movement

Overview

Stripe is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Data Movement to design, build, and scale data movement systems that power Stripe’s data platforms. You will help move data across services with reliability, low latency, and strong observability, enabling product teams to act on actionable insights at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate data movement pipelines across production systems.
• Build ingestion, replication, and streaming solutions to move data safely and efficiently.
• Ensure data quality, security, governance, and end-to-end observability.
• Collaborate with Data Platform, Infra, and product teams to define roadmaps and architectural decisions.
• Mentor engineers, participate in code reviews, and help grow Stripe’s data engineering capability.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience or equivalent; strong track record building data systems.
• Proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, Java or Scala; deep experience with distributed systems.
• Experience with data processing frameworks and technologies such as Kafka, Spark/Flink, Airflow, and SQL.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or GCP) and data security practices.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentorship skills; ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech or payments industry.
• Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and streaming architectures.
