Overview
Stripe is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Secrets Infrastructure team. In this role you will design and implement secure, scalable systems to manage and protect credentials and sensitive configuration across Stripe's services. You will collaborate with platform engineering, security, and product teams to build reliable secret storage, access controls, auditing, and rotation workflows in a distributed cloud environment. You will balance speed with security and reliability to help Stripe maintain trust with customers.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain secret management services and APIs
- Develop encryption, key management, access controls, auditing, and secret rotation mechanisms
- Integrate secret infrastructure with CI/CD, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms
- Improve reliability, monitoring, incident response, and disaster recovery for secret systems
- Write thorough tests, documentation, and runbooks to support the platform
Qualifications
- Strong software engineering experience with a track record of shipping reliable services
- Proficiency in systems programming languages (e.g., Go, Rust)
- Experience with secret management systems (e.g., HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secrets Manager) is a plus
- Knowledge of cryptography, encryption at rest, access control models, and security best practices
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure) and Kubernetes
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
Nice to have
- Terraform or other IaC tools, CI/CD tooling
- Observability and incident response experience (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.)
