About Stripe
Stripe is the global payments platform that builds economic infrastructure for the internet. We are seeking a Senior Product Counsel, Lending to join our Legal team and help shape the direction of Stripe's lending products, including Stripe Capital and related financing initiatives. This remote-friendly role collaborates with Product, Compliance, Privacy, Security, Finance, and Partnerships to design compliant product features, negotiate terms, and manage regulatory risk across the US and international markets.
The Role
As a Senior Product Counsel, Lending you will advise on the legal framework for Stripe's lending products, help drive product strategy, and ensure compliance with applicable consumer lending, advertising, privacy, and data protection laws. You will partner with cross-functional teams to craft scalable terms, controls, and disclosures that enable innovative lending solutions while protecting Stripe and its customers.
What You'll Do
- Provide strategic legal guidance on lending product design, risk controls, data practices, and regulatory considerations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate loan agreements, merchant terms, vendor contracts, and other commercial arrangements related to lending products.
- Advise on licensing, licensing regimes, consumer protection, truth in lending, advertising, privacy, and data protection laws in the US and internationally.
- Monitor evolving lending regulations, respond to regulatory inquiries, and coordinate with regulators as needed.
- Build and maintain scalable compliance programs, disclosures, and training for product teams.
- Collaborate with Product, Finance, Privacy, Security, and Partnerships to balance product innovation with risk management.
- Assist with merchant onboarding, disputes, and remediation programs in regulatory contexts.
What You Bring
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and bar admission in good standing.
- 6+ years of in-house or top law firm experience focused on fintech lending, consumer finance, or related areas.
- Deep knowledge of consumer lending laws, financial services regulations, and relevant privacy/advertising requirements.
- Strong negotiating and drafting skills with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical product terms.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities; comfortable working in a fast-paced, globally distributed environment.
- Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with strong business judgment and risk assessment capabilities.
