Data Governance Lead at Stripe
Stripe is seeking a data-driven, collaborative leader to design and scale our data governance program. This role partners with data engineers, product teams, privacy and security, and legal/compliance to establish policies, standards, and processes that ensure data quality, privacy, and regulatory compliance across the organization. The ideal candidate will drive stewardship, metadata management, data cataloging, and data lineage while enabling trusted data usage across Stripe.

Role overview
As the Data Governance Lead, you will own and advance Stripe's data governance program. You will define data ownership and stewardship, design scalable data quality and metadata systems, and collaborate across teams to ensure compliant and responsible data usage across the product, engineering, analytics, and compliance functions.
Responsibilities
- Define and implement the data governance framework, policies, and standards across data domains.
- Establish data ownership, data stewards, and accountability for data assets.
- Design, monitor, and improve data quality metrics, rules, and remediation workflows.
- Lead metadata management initiatives; maintain data catalogs, schemas, and data lineage.
- Collaborate with data engineering, analytics, product, security, and legal/compliance teams to enable compliant data usage.
- Drive privacy and security controls around data handling, retention, access, and consent management.
- Monitor governance KPIs and support audits or regulatory inquiries.
- Mentor cross-functional teams and promote data governance practices across the organization.
Qualifications
- 8+ years in data governance, data management, or data quality roles.
- Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, data quality, metadata, data lineage, data cataloging, privacy, and security.
- Experience with data tooling and platforms related to governance and metadata management.
- Excellent collaboration, communication, and program-management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment; remote-friendly.
