Overview

Stripe is seeking a Credit Risk Operations Team Lead to guide and scale risk operations in our Bangalore hub. You will lead a team responsible for evaluating merchant credit risk, implementing sound risk controls, and ensuring a smooth onboarding and lifecycle for Stripe's merchants.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of risk operations specialists.
  • Design, implement, and optimize credit risk policies for merchant onboarding, underwriting, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Define and track key risk metrics (approval rates, loss rates, delinquency, fraud indicators) and drive data-informed improvements.
  • Collaborate with Product, Data Science, Payments Engineering, Finance, and Legal to build scalable risk controls.
  • Build robust processes for KYC/AML checks, credit checks, and ongoing merchant risk monitoring.
  • Manage incident response and escalation, produce leadership-level reporting and dashboards.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations and Stripe policies; contribute to regulatory audits.
  • Hire, mentor, and grow team members; define career paths and performance goals.
  • Maintain SLAs, improve efficiency, and scale operations to support business growth.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in credit risk operations, merchant underwriting, or risk management in fintech/payments.
  • Prior leadership experience with a track record of delivering measurable impact.
  • Strong analytical skills; proficient in SQL, data visualization, and Excel; ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management; comfortable operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
  • Bachelor's degree; Master's preferred in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or related field.
  • Knowledge of Indian regulatory environment, KYC/AML standards, PCI DSS is a plus.
