Staff Software Engineer, Observability

📋 Description

• Define and execute the observability roadmap as a product.
• Architect, build, and scale distributed observability infrastructure (metrics, logs, traces).
• Build high-performance data pipelines and storage for telemetry at Pinterest scale.
• Champion best practices and patterns across the org for instrumenting services.
• Mentor engineers, lead architectural reviews, and influence decisions.
• Collaborate with SRE, Infra, and Product Eng to improve reliability and developer productivity.

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Product mindset: translate user needs into prioritized features and measurable outcomes.
• Distributed Systems: 7+ years designing and operating large-scale systems.
• Data engineering: pipelines, time-series databases, stream processing (Kafka, Flink), data modeling at scale.
• Observability tools: experience with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana.
• Programming: expert in Java, Python, Go, or Scala with production-grade coding.
