Staff Backend Engineer - Search FX (Discovery Experience)

📋 Description

• Own end-to-end architecture for search and discovery to be fast and relevant.
• Bridge retrieval, ranking, and personalization into a cohesive system.
• Integrate LLM-powered capabilities like natural language search into the product.
• Tackle high-scale, low-latency systems for millions of products.
• Collaborate with Data Science, Product, and Design to improve ranking and UX.
• Mentor engineers and foster ownership and engineering excellence.

🎯 Requirements

• Experience: 7+ years in software engineering, with 3+ years as a technical leader.
• Product sensibility: user-first mindset translating problems into direction.
• AI/ML familiarity: experience partnering with data science to deploy ML in search.
• Domain expertise: knowledge of search/query processing including Elasticsearch, Lucene.
• Technical stack: strong Kotlin or Java, high-performance backend systems, Protocol Buffers, MySQL.
• Strategic leadership: contribute to team strategy and roadmaps without supervision.
