Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Machine Design (Starship)

📋 Description

• Design, build, and activate custom machinery for Starship production.
• Develop Starfactory/Gigafactory concepts for rapid build, test, operation.
• Collaborate with vehicle engineers to optimize design and processes for higher production rate.
• Apply structural sizing, mechanism design, fabrication, and activation testing.
• Create models and prints in NX.
• Perform hand calculations to size structures and mechanisms.
• Create manufacturing plans for welding and toolmaking work.
• Support activation with controls engineering and development testing.

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• Experience with CAD packages: SolidWorks, NX, CATIA, or ProE.
• 5+ years designing and analyzing mechanical structures.
• 5+ years of technical project management experience.
• Ability to prioritize and execute in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborative team worker with engineers, technicians, suppliers, leaders.
• Experience in a production facility with equipment.
• Experience managing large CAD assemblies and drawings.
• Experience with finite element analysis.
• Experience designing mass-efficient welded structures.
• Experience designing and testing mechanisms.
• Applied GD&T knowledge.
• Hands-on experience with equipment manufacturing.
• ITAR: Must be U.S. citizen/national or eligible for export authorization.
• Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral.
• Willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
• Willing to travel to other SpaceX locations as necessary.
• Work schedule may vary with site operational needs; flexibility is required.
• Physical requirements: lifting, standing, climbing, bending, etc.
