Tech Lead, Web Core Product & Chrome Extension - Yokohama, Japan

Speechify is seeking a Tech Lead for the Web Core Product and Chrome Extension to join our team in Yokohama, Japan. In this leadership role, you will drive the technical direction of Speechify's web platform, mentor engineers, define architecture, and collaborate with product, design, and QA to deliver high-quality, accessible experiences. You will own the roadmap for our web core product and Chrome extension, ensure performance, scalability, and security, and help shape engineering culture.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical strategy and architecture for the web core product and Chrome extension
• Mentor and grow a team of frontend engineers
• Collaborate with product, design, backend, and QA across the product lifecycle
• Deliver fast, accessible UI with robust performance
• Drive code quality through reviews, tests, CI/CD, and tooling
• Define coding standards, best practices, and development processes
• Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and team growth
• Ensure security, privacy, and quality in every release

Requirements

• 7+ years of frontend development with JavaScript/TypeScript
• Strong experience with React and modern frontend ecosystems
• Proven track record building Chrome Extensions
• Leadership experience, mentoring, and team-building
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Experience with web performance optimization and accessibility (A11y)
• Familiarity with Node.js, REST APIs, GraphQL
• Ability to work on-site in Yokohama, Japan
