Tech Lead, Web Core Product & Chrome Extension - Speechify (Oulu, Finland)
Speechify is seeking a hands-on Tech Lead to own the web core product and the Chrome extension. Based in Oulu, Finland, you will define the technical direction, lead architecture and delivery, and mentor a team of engineers to ship high-quality features for our web app and browser extension. You will collaborate with product, design, and backend teams to create delightful user experiences.
Responsibilities
- Define and uphold the technical vision for the web core product and Chrome extension.
- Lead architecture decisions, code reviews, performance optimizations, and quality standards.
- Mentor and grow engineers, foster a collaborative, inclusive engineering culture.
- Collaborate with product, design, QA, and backend teams to plan and ship features on a regular cadence.
- Ensure robust testing, accessibility, and security considerations across front-end work.
Requirements
- 5-8+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of shipping web features.
- Strong JavaScript/TypeScript expertise and experience with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React).
- Experience building Chrome extensions and distributing via the Chrome Web Store.
- Proven leadership or tech-lead experience with the ability to mentor others and drive cross-functional initiatives.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; comfortable working with product and design teams.
- Based in or willing to relocate to Oulu, Finland.
Nice to have
- Experience with performance optimization, accessibility (a11y), and security best practices.
- Familiarity with backend integration, CI/CD pipelines, and modern deployment workflows.
