Tech Lead, Web Core Product & Chrome Extension
Speechify is seeking a Tech Lead to guide the development of our Web Core Product and Chrome Extension. This role is based in Helsinki, Finland.
Overview
As the Tech Lead, you will shape the frontend architecture for Speechify's core web experience and the Chrome Extension, lead a small team of engineers, and collaborate with product and design to deliver fast, accessible, and reliable experiences to millions of users from Helsinki.
Responsibilities
- Lead design, implementation, and delivery of web core features for Speechify's product.
- Own the Chrome Extension and related WebExtensions functionality across browsers.
- Mentor engineers, drive code quality, and manage technical debt.
- Collaborate with product, design, and backend teams to define roadmaps and milestones.
- Establish best practices for performance, accessibility, testing, CI/CD, and security.
- Review pull requests, set coding standards, and help the team grow technically.
- Monitor metrics, diagnose issues, and implement improvements for user experience.
Requirements
- 6+ years of frontend engineering experience with leadership/mentorship.
- Strong JavaScript and TypeScript skills; deep React experience.
- Experience building and shipping Chrome Extensions or WebExtensions.
- Proven track record delivering production-grade web applications.
- Familiarity with modern frontend toolchains (Webpack/Vite), testing, CI/CD, performance profiling.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with Node.js, GraphQL/REST APIs, or server-side rendering.
- Knowledge of accessibility (WCAG) and internationalization.
- Experience shipping at scale in a startup environment.
