About Speechify

Speechify is seeking a Software Engineer, Platform to join our team in Nagoya, Japan. You will help design, build, and scale core platform services that power our reading and text-to-speech experiences for users around the world. This role focuses on backend systems, APIs, and developer tooling that enable fast delivery, reliability, and a great developer experience.

Role Overview

As a Software Engineer, Platform, you will contribute to the evolution of Speechify's platform infrastructure, work with cross-functional teams, and help shape the architecture that enables our products to scale to millions of users.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs.
• Collaborate with product, data, and platform teams to deliver robust features.
• Build and operate cloud-based infrastructure with a focus on reliability, performance, and observability.
• Write tests, monitor systems, and participate in incident response and post-mortems.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a strong engineering culture.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., Python, Go, Java, Node.js).
• Experience designing and consuming REST or GraphQL APIs; familiarity with databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and data modeling.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

Nice to Have

• Experience with distributed systems or event-driven architectures.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and monitoring/observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog).
• Interest in mobile platforms or Speechify product domain.
• Japanese language ability is a plus.
