Software Engineer, Data Infrastructure & Acquisition - Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan

Speechify is seeking a Software Engineer, Data Infrastructure & Acquisition to join our team in Nagoya, Japan. You will design, build, and maintain data pipelines and ingestion systems that power Speechify's AI-powered reading experience.

Role overview

Work on data ingestion, data modeling, and data access layers to ensure reliable, high-quality data for product and analytics teams. Collaborate with data platform engineers, data scientists, and product teams to enable fast data-driven decisions.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain data ingestion pipelines from internal and external data sources
• Develop data models and storage strategies to support analytics and ML workloads
• Build ETL/ELT processes, data quality checks, and monitoring/alerting
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify data requirements and improve data reliability
• Optimize data freshness and query performance; participate in code reviews and testing
• Ensure security, governance, and compliance for data handling

What we\'re looking for

• 3+ years of professional experience in data infrastructure or related roles
• Strong Python and SQL skills
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Experience with data ingestion, streaming (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis), and data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery)
• Familiarity with version control and CI/CD pipelines
• Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities

Nice-to-have

• Experience with Spark, Airflow, dbt
• Knowledge of data privacy and security considerations
