Software Engineering Manager, Database Platform

📋 Description

• Own the end-to-end strategy and roadmap for Instacart's managed database platform.
• Lead and grow a high-performing team of 5 engineers with ownership culture.
• Design and operate multi-tenant DB offerings with high availability and performance.
• Build automation and control planes for provisioning, backups, DR via IaC.
• Partner with Security/SRE/Data to migrate legacy systems and drive adoption.
• Optimize costs via sizing, storage tiers, and performance improvements.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of software/infrastructure engineering; 2+ years leading engineers.
• 5+ years building/operating production DB platforms at scale (PostgreSQL/MySQL).
• Hands-on with AWS or GCP and Terraform; Kubernetes or DB operators.
• High availability and DR for relational databases; replication, backup/restore, PITR.
• Security: RBAC, encryption in transit/rest, secrets management, and audit logging.
• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
