Software Engineer, Engagement

📋 Description

• Lead the design and development of full-stack systems powering engagement experiences.
• Architect and build scalable microservices and event-driven systems (Kafka) in real time.
• Partner with Product, Marketing, and Design to turn 0→1 concepts into features.
• Collaborate with Legal and Compliance to meet regulatory and data governance needs.
• Optimize and experiment on key user surfaces, enabling A/B testing and performance.
• Contribute to the long-term vision of Upstart's credit health and wellness ecosystem.

🎯 Requirements

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience with backend focus.
• Experience with strongly typed languages such as Java, Kotlin, C#, or C.
• Hands-on design and development of microservices and distributed systems.
• Experience with event streams or messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Celery, or similar).
• Operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and drive projects from concept to launch.
• Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Product and Design to deliver customer-facing features.
