Smalls is looking for a cat-obsessed Brand Copywriter who understands that cats aren't just small dogs and isn't afraid to write copy that reflects cats’ true, uncompromising nature. This role is perfect for a wordsmith who gets excited about challenging pet industry conventions and crafting authentic messaging that resonates with cat parents. You'll work closely with our Associate Creative Director of Copy and creative team to develop compelling copy across marketing campaigns, retail materials, brand communications, and everything in between. As part of our creative team, you'll help shape how we talk about cats in a dog-first world, writing copy that's both culturally disruptive and conversion-focused while staying true to the authentic cat-human bond.
Write compelling copy across multiple channels including email campaigns, paid social media, advertising, packaging, and retail materials
Collaborate with creative and marketing teams to develop integrated campaign messaging that drives engagement and conversion
Create product descriptions, retail copy, and sales materials that authentically communicate Smalls' value proposition to cat parents
Support brand storytelling initiatives by writing blog content, customer stories, and educational materials about cat health and nutrition
Develop email marketing copy for acquisition, retention, and lifecycle campaigns that speak directly to cat parent pain points and desires
Write copy that captures our brand voice while driving community engagement and reflecting current cat culture trends for channels like social
Partner with designers to ensure copy and visuals work seamlessly together across all touchpoints
Maintain brand voice consistency while adapting tone and messaging for different audiences and channels
Research cat parent insights, competitor messaging, and industry trends to inform copy strategy and keep messaging relevant
Write clear, compelling CTAs and headlines that balance brand authenticity with performance marketing best practices
Support customer service and retention teams by developing messaging frameworks and copy templates
Contribute creative ideas during brainstorming sessions and help develop concepts from initial idea to final execution
You have 2+ years of copywriting experience, preferably with consumer brands, DTC companies, or agencies
You have a strong portfolio showcasing versatility across channels including email, social, advertising, and long-form content
You have exceptional writing skills with ability to adapt voice and tone for different audiences and platforms
You understand direct-response copywriting principles and what drives engagement and conversion
You're a cat parent with genuine understanding of cat behavior, needs, and the unique cat-human relationship
You're genuinely curious about cat culture, pet industry trends, and willingness to challenge conventional pet marketing
You possess strong collaboration skills and ability to take creative direction while contributing original ideas
You are detail-oriented with excellent proofreading skills and commitment to error-free copy
You're self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
