Senior Staff Software Engineer, Indexing & Retrieval Platform

📋 Description

• Lead the development of Reddit’s ML Indexing & Retrieval engine from ideation to production.
• Build scalable, reliable platforms for real-time ML data access.
• Partner with Content Understanding, Search, Feeds, Ads, Growth, and Safety teams.
• Define observability, reliability, and ops best practices for large-scale systems.
• Mentor engineers and promote robust DevOps and SRE principles.
• Collaborate with infrastructure and ML teams to scale Reddit’s platform.

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years in software engineering, indexing & retrieval.
• 3+ years in technical leadership, architecting distributed systems.
• Deep expertise in large-scale data platforms (batch & streaming).
• Designing and operating large-scale, low-latency retrieval services.
• Expertise in lexical and vector search (Milvus, Vespa, Elasticsearch).
• Cloud-native architectures with Kubernetes and AWS/GCP; strong communicator.
