Senior Editor, Research

📋 Description

• Build relationships with editors/reporters/partners; integrate research early.
• Escalation point for research staff; resolve complex reporting, deadlines, sourcing/verification.
• Manage and prioritize projects with senior editors; balance urgent vs long-term work.
• Assign research work, shape strategy across desks/beats/regions.
• Provide hands-on guidance on records strategies, OSINT and verification.
• Collaborate with reporters/editors to define goals and connect dots across data.

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years in newsroom/investigative research; 5+ years managing a team.
• Deep in-depth research experience; investigative journalism or gov/academic research.
• Budget management; negotiate subscriptions/contracts; vendor contact.
• Experience using emerging technologies for investigative research.
• Experience building morale in a distributed team.
• Excellent communication and collaboration across the newsroom and external partners.
