The Safety Insights Data Science Team at Reddit is growing and we are looking for an experienced Data Science Manager to lead a team of talented data scientists to make Reddit the safest and well moderated platform in the world by uncovering insights and driving strategic initiatives. This role will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners (Product, Engineering, Design, Enforcement, Threat Analysts, Operations, Marketing) to help us build and improve the systems that continuously drive impact.
Responsibilities:
- Directly lead a team of data scientists supporting two critical organizations within the company, Safety & Moderation. Mentor the existing team while continuing to add great new talent to the organization.
- Serve as a thought leader, drawing on your deep domain expertise - including understanding of user needs and business goals and the evolving ML and LLM landscape.
- Drive the adoption of strategic and tactical recommendations that are based on (1) deep and hands-on experience with Reddit products, and (2) data skills and understanding, to maximize our value to Reddit consumers.
- Serve as a thought-partner for product managers, engineering managers and leadership across our Safety & Moderation orgs, communicating and shaping the roadmap and strategy for Reddit by identifying actionable and impactful insights through deep-dive analyses and analytics insights.
- Be proactively involved in all phases of enforcement strategy and product development, including but not limited to, ideation, exploratory analysis, opportunity sizing, metrics design, offline modeling, experimentation and decision-making, post-launch monitoring/measurements etc.
- You will have a keen interest in the collection and quality of underlying data (experiment design and analysis, data deep dive), along with working on ETLs, reporting dashboards and data aggregations needed for business tracking and/or ML model development.
Required Qualifications:
- Track record of driving trust & safety product strategy and roadmaps through analytics, particularly for consumer technology products and marketplaces.
- Proven success building, leading, and developing high-performing product analytics and modeling teams (ideally 5+ years of leadership, managing a team of 5+ data scientists).
- Demonstrated expertise in leading teams focused on causal inference, A/B testing experimentation, metric definition and governance, and product strategy development.
- Experience Overseeing ML/LLM development or evaluation processes.
- Track record of leading initiatives that enable analytics self-serve capabilities for cross-functional teams.
- Skilled communicator, effectively engaging both highly technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to translate nuanced complex concepts and systems into simple, easily understandable terms.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python/R for hands-on data analysis, including working side-by-side with data teams.
- Adopts a collaborative approach, using evidence-based insights to form and advocate for product opinions.
