Senior Prompt Engineer

Role overview

As a Senior Prompt Engineer at Postscript, you will design, implement, and optimize prompts and instruction sets for AI models powering our messaging platform. You will collaborate with product, engineering, and data science teams to deliver high-quality, safe, and scalable AI capabilities that improve customer experiences and drive results for ecommerce brands.

Key responsibilities

• Design, test, and refine prompts for chatbots, content generation, and automated messaging across our product.
• Build and maintain evaluation frameworks to measure prompt quality, latency, cost, and user impact.
• Collaborate with software engineers to integrate prompts into production features and services; monitor performance and iterate.
• Mentor junior engineers, contribute to code reviews, and help shape the AI roadmap.
• Establish safety guidelines, content policies, and fail-safes to mitigate risk and ensure compliance.
• Develop tooling for prompt authoring, testing, and monitoring.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in AI/NLP, ML, or prompt engineering; proven track record.
• Deep knowledge of large language models (GPT-3/4, Claude, etc.), prompt design patterns, few-shot/instruction tuning.
• Proficiency in Python and RESTful API integration; experience with data pipelines and tooling.
• Strong analytical mindset and experience with evaluation metrics, A/B testing, and experimentation.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to lead initiatives and influence product decisions.

Nice-to-have

• Experience building prompts for ecommerce, marketing, or customer communications.
• Familiarity with safety, privacy, and compliance considerations in AI systems.
