Post-Training Research Scientist

📋 Description

• Define and pursue a research agenda spanning pure and applied work.
• Design and execute rigorous experiments at scale (multi-node, 1T+ params).
• Publish at top venues (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR) and raise Baseten's research presence.
• Collaborate with model performance and training infra to bridge research and production.
• Mentor junior researchers and shape the technical direction of the org.

🎯 Requirements

• PhD or equivalent in ML with first-author publications at top venues.
• Move from theory through implementation to empirical results.
• Judgment in problem selection; distinguish metric gains from system changes.
• Willingness to operate in a startup with timelines in months rather than years.
• Preferred: experience with production ML systems and deployment constraints.
• Preferred: cross-domain research (interpretability, RL) or systems/training.
• Preferred: open-source contributions or ML community activity.
