Platform Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineering

📋 Description

• Architect new platform capabilities and APIs for OpenAI.
• Incubate platform bets end-to-end; test hypotheses and ship quickly.
• Embed with design partners to learn constraints and translate into requirements.
• Partner with customer-tagged FDEs in the field; deploy, debug, and extract patterns.
• Design and run pilots; define criteria for early adopters and stand up alphas.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align architecture and production.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years software or ML engineering; shipping 0→1 capabilities.
• Owned customer-facing work end-to-end from scoping to production adoption.
• Experience shaping reliability, security, governance (RBAC, auditability, observability).
• Clear communicator across engineering, product, GTM, and executives; able to pitch platform bets.
• Default to systems thinking; translate feedback into durable platform requirements.
• Based in SF or NY; hybrid model (3 days in office); relocation assistance.
