What We Do:

We are seeking passionate, high performing senior software engineers to join our growing Paycycle Engineering team.

As part of this team, you will be an influential member helping us deliver Payscale’s mission to unlock an organization’s full potential through compensation intelligence. As a member of the Paycycle team you will accomplish this by providing comprehensive compensation planning functionality for our customers. As the product enters its next phase, we will be responsible for ensuring a scalable, performant, and maintainable platform that provides innovative features to make sure our clients can perform effective and well-informed compensation decisions.

What You’ll Do:

As a Senior Software Engineer:

  • You will translate business requirements and bug descriptions into working solutions while contributing to the system architecture and minimizing technical debt

  • You will write high-quality, well-structured code that is maintainable and extensible

  • You will work on a highly collaborative scrum team with skilled teammates

  • You will provide technical advice and weigh in on technical decisions that impact other teams or the company at large by collaborating with stakeholders

  • You enjoy selecting and using appropriate frameworks and learning new ones

  • You will take initiative to identify and solve important problems, and coordinate with others on cross-cutting technical issues

  • You will identify and proactively tackle technical debt before it grows into debt that requires significant up-front work to resolve

  • Collaborate and partner as required with infrastructure, platform, product, DevOps and support teams

  • Mentor peers on best practices and new technologies

What We’re Looking For:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline and 5+ years of professional experience

  • Full-stack experience in building well architected and scalable Java web applications using popular web application frameworks

  • Experience in our key framework libraries: Spring, Spring Boot and Hibernate

  • Experience in writing performant complex SQL queries and an understanding of relational databases

  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills

  • Writing understandable and testable code while embracing unit and integration test concepts with experience in JUnit and Mockito

  • Have the ability and desire to work with a team of people solving complex problems that often require independent research with minimal supervision

  • Able to clearly articulate technical concepts to developers, managers, and less technical colleagues

Experience and desired knowledge:

  • Vaadin or similar Java based web frameworks (such as JSF or Wicket)

  • SaaS and multi-tenant applications

  • JavaScript

  • AWS cloud solutions

  • MariaDB

  • Message queues / messaging frameworks

  • Gatling or similar load testing frameworks

  • Containerization
