Job Summary
We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to lead the design and optimization of our cloud-based data systems that power mission-critical healthcare applications. You’ll play a key role in building secure, scalable, and compliant database solutions using Azure SQL Server, and other cloud-native technologies. Additionally, you will work in supporting the evolution of our analytics lakehouse and all of its data sources. Our platform supports real-time clinical workflows, patient data analytics, and regulatory reporting—so precision, performance, and privacy are paramount.

Essential Functions Architect and maintain HIPAA-compliant database environments across Azure SQL, Managed Instances, and SQL Server on VMsDesign and optimize T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and ETL processes for high-volume healthcare dataImplement high-availability, geo-redundancy, and disaster recovery strategies to support client clinical operationsCollaborate with DevOps and Security teams to integrate database deployments into CI/CD pipelines and enforce data governance policiesMonitor and tune performance using Query Store, Extended Events, and Azure Monitor, ensuring sub-second response times for clinical applicationsLead data migration and transformation efforts from legacy systems to cloud-native architecturesEnsure PHI protection through encryption, access controls, and audit logging aligned with HITECH and SOC 2 standardsDesign and implement pipelines to support our Enterprise Analytics and Reporting LakehouseMentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement Minimum Requirements 7+ years of experience with SQL Server and Azure SQL in production environments, ideally within healthcare or regulated industriesDeep understanding of cloud database architecture, PaaS vs IaaS, and hybrid cloud modelsStrong command of T-SQL, PowerShell, and optionally Python or C# for automation and scriptingExperience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templatesFamiliarity with FHIR, HL7, or other healthcare data standards is a plusProven ability to work cross-functionally with product, compliance, and clinical teamsExcellent communication and documentation skills, especially around data lineage and auditability Preferred Qualifications Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or equivalentExperience with Azure Synapse, Cosmos DB, or Data Lake integrationsExposure to clinical data models, EHR integrations, or claims processing systemsExperience with Azure Databricks, Azure Fabric, or other big data platforms for large-scale healthcare analyticsProficiency in Python for data engineering, automation, or ML pipeline integrationExposure to streaming data architectures (e.g., Azure Event Hubs, Kafka) and real-time analyticsFamiliarity with Delta Lake, Parquet, or Lakehouse architecturesUnderstanding of data mesh principles and distributed data ownership models Working Environment/Physical Demands 100% RemoteActivities require a significant amount of work in front of a computer monitor.Long-distance or air travel as needed – not to exceed 5% travel.
