The Vice President of Gas is a senior leader responsible for leading the strategic direction, operational performance, and client relationships for the firm’s gas utility services. This individual oversees engineering design, project execution, quality assurance, and business development efforts related to gas distribution systems, regulator stations, transmission pipelines, and associated infrastructure. The Vice President provides cross-functional leadership to engineering, project management, and business development teams, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality, safe, and compliant solutions to utility clients. This role is accountable for team performance, profitability, client satisfaction, and alignment with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal best practices. As the senior leader for this business unit, the VP plays a key role in strategic planning, resource forecasting, client engagement, innovation, and talent development, driving long-term success for both the firm and its clients in the natural gas sector.

What you will do:

  • Lead all gas transmission and distribution operations, overseeing engineering, project management, technical standards, and client delivery
  • Define and implement strategic plans to grow the firm’s utility sector services, including identifying new markets, clients, and service offerings
  • Establish and enforce technical standards, QA/QC processes, and regulatory compliance protocols (e.g., CFR Part 192)
  • Serve as executive sponsor for major gas utility clients, managing high-level relationships, contract negotiations, and issue resolution
  • Ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of projects by guiding team performance, resource allocation, and risk management strategies
  • Develop and oversee departmental budgets, forecasts, and key performance indicators to ensure operational and financial targets are met
  • Mentor and develop high-performing teams, including engineering managers, project leaders, and technical staff, fostering a culture of accountability and professional growth
  • Drive business development efforts, including proposal strategy, pursuit planning, estimates, client presentations, and technical positioning
  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement, identifying emerging technologies, industry trends, and process improvements to enhance service delivery
  • Ensure professional engineering oversight, including review, approval, and stamping of plans, as needed, while supporting team licensure and training
  • Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering or similar field from an ABET accredited program (required)
  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Business Administration (preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 15+ years of progressive engineering and project experience in the natural gas industry, including 5+ years in leadership roles
  • Demonstrated experience managing large gas utility programs or portfolios
  • Active membership in professional organizations such as AGA, SGA, or ASME (preferred)
  • Deep understanding of gas utility systems, including transmission and distribution design, regulator station engineering, and pipeline safety regulations
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and large project portfolios
  • Strategic thinking and business acumen, including experience managing budgets, forecasts, and department-level financials
  • Excellent client relationship management skills, with a track record of building long-term partnerships in the utility sector
  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation), project management tools, and utility-specific platforms
  • In-depth knowledge of industry codes and regulations, including CFR Part 192 and client-specific design standards
  • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with strong negotiation and presentation abilities
