The Mechanical Engineer II plays a key role in supporting the design, analysis, and development of mechanical systems for a wide range of building and infrastructure projects. This position performs intermediate-level engineering tasks under moderate supervision, contributing to the design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems. Responsibilities include preparing detailed construction documents, performing load calculations, selecting equipment, ensuring code compliance, and coordinating with other engineering disciplines to deliver high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective designs.
The Mechanical Engineer II collaborates closely with senior engineers, project managers, architects, and contractors to support all project phases from concept through construction. What you will do: Perform HVAC load calculations, equipment sizing, and ductwork and piping layout designAssist in the design of hydronic systems, perform basic flow and pressure calculations, and prepare equipment schedulesSupport design of plumbing and fire protection systems, including layout development and coordination with other disciplinesDevelop drawings and specifications using Revit and AutoCAD under the guidance of senior engineersParticipate in multidisciplinary coordination meetings with architectural, structural, electrical, and civil teamsConduct site visits to support data collection, field verification, and construction administration activitiesPrepare engineering calculations, technical reports, and cost estimates for reviewEnsure all work adheres to applicable codes, standards, and project requirementsAssist in reviewing shop drawings and responding to RFIs during the construction phaseContinuously develop technical skills through training, mentorship, and hands-on project experience Who you are: Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection system design fundamentalsFamiliarity with mechanical codes and standards such as ASHRAE, IMC, IPC, and NFPAProficiency in Revit and AutoCAD for MEP modeling and documentationStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detailEffective written and verbal communication skills for coordination and documentationAbility to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environmentEagerness to learn advanced design methods and project delivery practices Your background: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program3-5 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably in building systems or related industriesEngineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred or ability to obtain within one yearExperience with Revit, AutoCAD, and load calculation software desired At Milhouse, we’re more than just a place to work — we’re a place to grow, thrive, and be celebrated.
