At Meter, we believe enterprise connectivity should feel as effortless as consumer Wi-Fi. Wireless is the last mile of the network, and it defines the customer’s experience — how quickly they get online, how reliable their connection feels, and how confident they are in their infrastructure. As a Wireless Engineer at Meter, you’ll design and build the embedded systems and features that turn complex wireless challenges into seamless experiences for businesses at scale.
You will work on advanced enterprise features like secure NAC, and RF-based client localization that enhance the intelligence and performance of our networks. At the same time, you’ll help build core platform capabilities including LTE/GPS integration, and gateway development, ensuring our products scale reliably in real-world deployments.
The impact you’ll drive
Work on new platform initiatives like the Meter Gateway, which brings together access points, switches, controllers, LTE, GPS, and more into the backbone of our product.
Build enterprise-grade security and access features like highly scalable NAC solutions.
Develop enterprise-grade features such as RF optimization and advanced client localization that make wireless connectivity smarter and more reliable for enterprise customers.
Design and test features directly on embedded devices (e.g., access points, gateways) that sit at the center of the customer experience.
Ensure observability is built in from the start — empowering customers and Meter teams to diagnose, triage, and resolve wireless issues with speed and confidence.
What your craft looks like
Your day-to-day will span debugging at the packet level, designing wireless features on embedded devices, and contributing to scalable systems that power thousands of customer sites. You’ll:
Dive into protocols like 802.11, wireless authentication mechanisms, and packet captures to design features grounded in a deep understanding of wireless.
Collaborate with firmware, backend, and operations teams to deliver full-stack features that move seamlessly from embedded device to customer dashboard.
Apply high standards of technical rigor, performance, and reliability — building wireless systems that customers trust in high-stakes environments.
What makes you a fit
Deep understanding of networking, in particular L2/L3 network protocols.
Knowledge of wireless networking and the 802.11 protocol.
Experience working on embedded devices and device drivers.
Comfortable analyzing packet captures, debugging wireless performance, and triaging issues.
Knowledge of LTE, GPS, Zigbee, or Bluetooth is a plus, especially for platform-focused work.
Proficiency in C/C++. Experience with Golang is a plus.
A mindset of ownership, autonomy, and curiosity — motivated by building elegant, scalable wireless systems that directly shape customer outcomes.
Why Meter?
The internet runs the world. Every purchase you make, video call you join, it's all packets flowing through networks. But those networks haven’t changed for decades. They’re brittle, complex, and surprisingly hard to set up in an enterprise space.
We started Meter to build better networks. We had to build everything from the ground-up: designing and building our own enterprise hardware, intuitive software, and streamlined operations to deliver great outcomes for our customers. Today, we build and deploy these networks at scale. Ambitious companies and enduring institutions like Bridgewater, Lyft, Reddit, rely on Meter to keep their thousands of employees and locations online and productive.
Our bet with Meter is simple: we will all use the internet more than we do today. We believe we have the definitive networking stack in place to enable business to do so as seamlessly and reliably as any modern utility.
