The Opportunity

Since 2005, MDCalc has been an essential part of the clinician’s workflow to help achieve better patient outcomes. Actively used by more than 65% of US physicians, MDCalc is the most broadly used medical reference – at the point-of-care – for clinical decision tools and content, and one of only four references used by >50% of US HCPs. These evidence-based tools and content are used by millions of medical professionals globally and support 50+ specialties and cover 200+ patient conditions.

We are seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Medical Director (MD/DO) to join our team. The role will focus on establishing and nurturing peer-to-peer relationships with key medical and clinical experts while playing a pivotal role in the development and maintenance of clinical content for MDCalc.

The Role

As the Medical Science Liaison (MD/DO) – Life Sciences at MDCalc, you will be a central figure in our commitment to delivering high-quality clinical content that empowers healthcare professionals worldwide. This role requires a deep understanding of medical practice, a passion for improving patient care through evidence-based clinical decision support, exceptional communication, and an eagerness to collaborate with the Life Science internal team and their clients.

The responsibilities of this individual include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Clinical Expertise for Sales Support: Provide in-depth clinical guidance and expertise to the life sciences team, enabling them to frame medical solutions and product benefits in alignment with clinical best practices during the sales process.

  • Pre-Call Disease State Education: Deliver focused, up-to-date training to internal teams on specific disease states, products, or clinical guidelines before client meetings or sales calls, ensuring team members are well-versed in the latest medical evidence and terminology.

  • Active Participation in Sales Pitches: Join select sales pitches or client engagements to act as the “voice of the physician,” answering complex clinical questions, offering objective scientific insights, and building trust with clients through credible peer-to-peer dialogue—while remaining compliant and non-promotional in approach.

  • Resource Development: Create and maintain educational resources, FAQs, and briefing documents to support the sales cycle, anticipate client questions, and enhance internal confidence in discussing medical topics.

  • Peer-to-Peer Engagement: Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with key medical and clinical experts, thought leaders, and opinion makers to ensure the continuous flow of expert knowledge to our platform.

  • Content Development: Partner with the internal Life Sciences team to prioritize newly developed tools, or identify disease areas where MDCalc could improve its clinical content to host more relevant tools. Collaborate with the MDCalc internal content team to identify these areas for opportunity, and to create, update, and curate clinical content, including calculators, guidelines, and other resources.

  • Strategic Initiatives: Provide design and support for strategic initiatives, projects, and partnerships related to clinical content development and overall engagement of the MDCalc site.

  • Clinical Review: Act as a subject matter expert and participate in the clinical review of content products to ensure accuracy, relevancy, and adherence to best clinical practices.

  • Feedback Loop: Establish feedback mechanisms with key opinion leaders, along with internal stakeholders, to incorporate their insights and recommendations into our clinical content.

Your Background

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.

  • Active medical license and clinical practice experience.

  • A strong network of relationships with key opinion leaders and medical experts within the healthcare community.

  • In-depth knowledge of evidence-based medicine, clinical guidelines, and medical literature.

  • Strong project management and strategic planning skills.

  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.

  • Experience in a similar role is a plus.

  • Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient care and clinical accuracy.

What MDCalc offers:

  • Monthly retainer aligned with experience and level of contribution

  • Bi-annual company offsites to connect, reflect, and plan together

  • Ability to make a true difference in medicine: MDCalc is the most broadly used medical reference by physicians, used by over 65% of US attending doctors weekly

  • A culture of fun and motivated team members who believe in a greater mission here at MDCalc
