Role overview

As a Staff Security Engineer focused on Detect & Response, you will design, implement, and operate detection and incident response capabilities across Marqeta's platform to protect customers and data. You will shepherd security instrumentation, refine detection strategies, and lead incident response efforts in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and scale detections, alerting, and telemetry for security events.
• Lead incident response activities, drive root-cause analysis, post-incident reviews, and remediation efforts.
• Collaborate with security operations, platform engineering, and product teams to embed security into the development lifecycle.
• Develop automation and playbooks to accelerate detection and response to threats.
• Mentor and coach junior security engineers and contribute to a strong security culture at Marqeta.

Qualifications

• 5-8+ years in security engineering, incident response, or related field; experience with threat detection and incident response.
• Strong knowledge of cloud security (AWS, GCP, Azure) and secure software development practices.
• Experience with SIEM, EDR, SOAR, telemetry, and security instrumentation; proficiency with Linux/Unix and scripting (Python, Bash).
• Experience with containerized environments and microservices security is a plus.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Security certifications (e.g., CISSP, GIAC) or equivalent experience.
• Experience with threat hunting, reverse engineering, or malware analysis is a plus.

Compensation & Equity

Equity Minimum - Premium: 114,750 USD

Equity Target - Premium: 172,125 USD

Equity Minimum - Premium Plus: 127,500 USD

Equity Target - Premium Plus: 191,250 USD

International OTE Range (CAD, annual): 141,900.00 - 177,400.00 - 212,900.00 CAD
