Marqeta is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Scientist to join its Fraud Intelligence team. This remote-friendly role focuses on building and deploying machine learning models to detect and prevent fraud in payments.

What you will do

• Design, train, and deploy machine learning models for fraud detection and prevention in payment systems.
• Develop scalable features and experiment with novel approaches to reduce fraud losses.
• Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, product managers, and security teams to translate business problems into ML solutions.
• Monitor model performance in production, conduct error analysis, and iterate to improve accuracy and robustness.
• Communicate findings and impact to cross-functional stakeholders.

What we look for

• Strong background in machine learning, statistics, and data analysis; proven experience delivering models to production.
• Experience with fraud detection, risk assessment, or security-focused ML is a plus.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL; familiarity with distributed processing (e.g., Spark) is a plus.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
