Principal AI Security Engineer

Overview

Marqeta is seeking a Principal AI Security Engineer to lead the security design and implementation for AI systems and data platforms across the company. This remote role supports teams based in the United States. You will drive security architecture, threat modeling, incident response, and secure ML lifecycle tooling for AI/ML pipelines, ensuring governance and risk compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead security architecture for AI/ML pipelines and data platforms
• Perform threat modeling, risk assessments, and security reviews for AI features
• Develop and implement security controls, safeguards, and compliance measures for AI systems
• Collaborate with AI/ML engineering teams to embed security into product features and pipelines
• Mentor engineers, promote secure-by-default practices, and contribute to security governance
• Support security incident response and continuous improvement of security tooling

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in AI security and cloud security
• Strong knowledge of threat modeling, secure software development lifecycle, governance and compliance
• Hands-on with security tooling (SAST/DAST, IAM, encryption, key management) and secure ML tooling
• Experience with MLOps security, data privacy, and risk management
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills

Compensation and Benefits

Equity options include Premium Plus and Premium programs. Equity minimums/targets: Premium Plus – Min: $360,000; Target: $540,000; Premium – Min: $324,000; Target: $486,000.
