Manager, AI Engineering - AI & Business Tech Engineering

📋 Description

• Lead and grow a distributed AI engineering team (6 to 8) building copilots.
• Act as player-coach: review architecture, prototype agents, and write code; set a high bar.
• Define and execute the AI Engineering roadmap across copilots, platform, and AI-native processes.
• Design end-to-end agentic systems: orchestration, memory, evaluation, observability, governance.
• Build and evolve internal AI platform (MCP gateway, runtimes, model access) for safe AI.
• Partner with leaders across Finance, People, Sales, Marketing, Collaboration, and Security to ship AI opportunities.
• Collaborate with EA, Data Eng, PM, and Security to ensure well-architected, governed AI.
• Champion AI practices: evaluation-first, versioning, guardrails, audit logging, human-in-the-loop.
• Develop OKRs and metrics; report progress to leadership.
• Recruit AI engineering talent in Boston, Cambridge, and broader US/non-US hubs; coach the team.
• Contribute to leadership planning and cross-org AI communities.

🎯 Requirements

• Significant software engineering manager experience leading teams that ship in production.
• Hands-on AI/ML expertise: LLMs, retrieval, agents, evaluation, and LLMOps.
• Experience with agentic systems and orchestration tools (LangGraph, MCP, vector stores).
• Design internal developer platforms and self-service APIs/SDKs.
• AI governance and safety: audit logging, boundaries, human-in-the-loop, NIST RMF.
• Strong in Python/Go/TypeScript/Java; cloud-native infra (Kubernetes, serverless, gRPC, observability).
• Bias for shipping: focus on outcomes; unblock with pragmatic decisions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; influence non-engineering stakeholders.
• Experience hiring and retaining AI engineers; grow juniors into seniors.
• Comfort in hybrid work with Boston/Cambridge and distributed teams.
• Bonus: enterprise-process re-engineering (Workday, Salesforce, NetSuite, Greenhouse) or AI deployments.
• Bonus: deploying AI tooling at scale to internal users (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot).
