The Position:
Makpar has an exciting opportunity for a Network Engineer to join our growing team. The Network Engineer will provide support for an Agency (Police “Department”) of approximately 3,200 users. The Network Engineer will provide technical leadership on major network tasks or technology assignments. The Network Engineer requires technical expertise, extensive experience, and strong problem-solving skills.
Role Specific Duties/ Role Responsibilities: Duties and technical capabilities shall include extensive experience with networking equipment, software, programming, and design.Network documentation inclusive of all switching and routing equipment, connected or to-be-connected IP-addressable devices, and all cabling interconnectsAssistance with day-to-day network maintenance to include installation, configuration, operation, and troubleshootingReview and analyze current network processes and proceduresDevelop and recommend improvements to network processes and proceduresImplement, manage, and maintain approved network process improvement recommendationsDevelop and implement quality assurance and quality control plans for maintenance of the networkReview, analyze, document, and implement disaster recovery plans for the networkResearch, design, and implement security solutions for network infrastructureMonitor, review, analyze, performance tune, and make recommendations that will result in continued optimization of the networkAdminister and manage firewall security appliancesKeep OIS abreast of emerging network technologies and the latest network standardsMonitor, review, analyze, performance tune, and make recommendations that will result in continued optimization of the networkLead projects as an Engineering Lead and/or Project Manager to develop secure resilient systemsPrepare and maintain conceptual designs, schedules, and cost estimates for new and modified systemsConduct design reviewsPrepare conceptual designs, schedules, and cost estimates for new and modified systemsDocument, install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot switches, firewalls, routers, wireless systems, and ancillary support systemsRecognize, track, report on, and mitigate potential network security vulnerabilitiesGenerate and follow procedures for ensuring the continued reliability of the networkResearch, compile, and analyze network designs to assist with the resolution of network issuesApply standards, policies, principles, practices and techniques of network engineering and documentationUtilize experience with network protocols, subnets, virtual LANs, firewalls, VPNs, and other common network technologiesConfigure and maintain multicast technologiesProvides data for audits.The Network Engineer is required to be onsite at the Fairchild Building in downtown Washington, DC three (3) days per week. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Have a minimum of 6+ years’ experience in the related area as an individual contributor.Possess a Core certification within their functional area, such as a CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, C.16.5. Possess base-level certification, such as A+, Security+, or Network+Direct experience with network elements such as Aruba, Palo Alto, etc.certification (s) within their functional area, such as Microsoft, VMware and / or RedHatStrong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills Additional Requirements as per contract/client (Optional or Preferred): Candidates must be a U.S. citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident (Green Card status) for 3 years and be Federal Tax compliant. Knowledge of operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux, UNIX). Experience with scripting and programming languages (e.g., Python, Perl). Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure). Understanding of networking protocols (e.g., TCP, IP). Proficiency with version-control systems (e.g., Git). Communication: Ability to clearly explain technical information to both technical and non- Attention to Detail: Minimizing errors and ensuring accuracy in system design and implementation.Excellent written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder briefings, technical documentation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
