Make is the leading visual platform for anyone to design, build, and automate anything—from tasks and workflows to apps and systems—without the need for coding skills. We are headquartered in the flourishing tech hub of Prague, Czech Republic, and our teams are spread across the USA, UK, Germany, France, Canada, India and Chile, among other locations.

Why do we love building Make (and why you might, too)?

We are developers and we take it for granted that we can solve pretty much anything by writing software. But what if someone is not a developer or doesn't have access to one? Chances are that they will end up doing the same boring tasks over and over, copy-pasting data from one place to another, wasting time on low-value work instead of doing something way more impactful.

With Make, we give anyone the opportunity to build powerful automations in a way that almost feels like a game. We give anyone a chance to experience the joy of building something that just works. We turn regular people into makers.

What you’ll do

  • You will lead and grow one of the engineering teams at Make, focusing on the engine that powers user-defined automations. This core component ensures the timely and reliable execution of automations, a critical aspect of our product’s value.
  • This is a highly technical role. You will navigate a complex technical environment with multiple teams depending on your team’s functionality. While you won’t be writing code, your deep understanding of backend engineering will be crucial.
  • You will drive the modernization of a backend engine that executes thousands of automations per second. This involves enhancing an existing system rather than building from scratch.
  • You won’t be alone. You will collaborate closely with a dedicated Product Manager and UX Designer to shape the vision and strategy for your product area.
  • You will manage and mentor a team of six software engineers, with potential for future expansion, fostering a supportive and growth-oriented environment.
  • You will have a lot of fun at work, too 🙂

Our Tech stack

  • ⚙️ Back-end: JS/TS, Node.js, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, Redis, Elasticsearch
  • 🖥 Front-end: JS/TS, Angular, React, Web Components, Canvas
  • ☁️ Infra: Docker, Kubernetes, AWS
  • 🚚 CI/CD: GitHub, CircleCI
  • 🔎 Monitoring: DataDog

What we expect from you

You have a robust technical background, with experience in developing end-to-end solutions for high-scale web applications. Your primary expertise is in backend architecture and cloud-native services, ideally within highly scalable cloud systems.

You thrive on collaboration, enjoying close teamwork with Product and UX teams to devise pragmatic solutions that effectively address key user needs while maintaining technical quality.

As a dedicated servant leader, you have a proven track record of guiding engineering teams with expertise and confidence, serving as a capable and inspiring captain.

The engine that your future team owns is Make’s core component and a key differentiator in our value proposition. It executes thousands of automations per second but requires modernization to support our future growth and innovation. You should be motivated and excited by the challenge of modernizing an existing system, embracing the complexities of a brownfield situation rather than a greenfield one.

Imagine yourself as a superhero who's piloting a flying Dreamliner full of passengers. 🦸 Your mission is to upgrade the engines mid-flight, without landing the plane, while all passengers enjoy a smooth and cozy flight with a delicious drink in their hand. If this picture excites you, we need to talk.

Here’s the scoop on what we’re looking for:

  • Typically 7+ years of software engineering experience, with a particular passion for and expertise in backend architecture.
  • Typically 2+ years in a leadership role.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end web development process, from code creation to production deployment.
  • Strong enthusiasm for developing highly scalable, cloud-native services.
  • Enthusiastic about modernizing existing systems, with a drive to improve and innovate within brownfield environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with various teams across the company.
  • Proven ability to partner closely with Product Managers, contributing to the development and articulation of a clear technical vision.
  • Strong command of English – verbal & written (we’re an international team).
