We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who's ready to ship customer-facing features that make insurance fast and delightful. You will work directly with Product, QA, Data, and ML partners to take ideas from concept to production and measure their real impact. This role is critical for evolving our core European insurance products, ensuring our systems are robust, scalable, and responsive as we expand. You'll be part of a team with the biggest direct impact on our end users in the European market.

In this role, you'll:

  • Build the core insurance product customers will use, owning the full lifecycle from feature conception to deployment.

  • Lead the technical execution within a self-sufficient squad, partnering with Product to define scope, deliver increments, and hit OKRs.

  • Design and deliver clean APIs and write maintainable code, always keeping performance, reliability, and security top of mind.

  • Leverage our in-house autonomous tools to accelerate development, from setting up environments to deploying to production.

  • Mentor and elevate other engineers through design reviews, pair sessions, and knowledge sharing.

  • Help shape the next generation of the Lemonade platform by contributing to its design and implementation.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.

What you'll need:

  • 7+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer

  • A strong product mindset, with a history of building and shipping large-scale products focused on an exceptional user experience.

  • Experience with data-driven decision-making and a proven sense of ownership from feature design through to deployment.

  • BSc in Computer Science or Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Ability to work in an office environment a minimum of 3 days a week.

  • Enthusiasm for learning and adapting to the exciting world of AI, a commitment to exploring this field is a fundamental part of our culture.

Nice to Have:

  • Exposure to TypeScript or Ruby on Rails

  • Past contributions to open-source projects
