The finance team is central to partnering with business leaders to provide accurate, timely and quality information to support their growth plans.

About the role

To work closely with senior divisional management to drive and improve business performance, through providing constructive tension into decisions, delivering financial and commercial support, ensuring strong governance and compliance and giving insight into business performance.

The appointed candidate should work with key stakeholders in the business to shape and set direction in line with the organisations structure and goals whilst keeping in line with the finance structure and goals.

Your part to play

Business Decision Support

  • To be the finance support for the Central Cost Centres and, where required, individual operating divisions, covering all financial areas e.g., P&L, Balance Sheet and cashflow.
  • Monitoring of compliance against financial covenants.
  • Responding to external stakeholder information requests e.g. from our PE backers.
  • Provision of insightful and consistent support to inform and drive business decisions.
  • Lead monthly review meetings to assess performance with the supported Cost Centre managers and senior stakeholders.
  • Proactively performance manage, challenge and influence senior management to maximise business performance.
  • Involvement in implementation and use of systems to provide greater visibility and control over spending and hiring requests.
  • To identify procurement savings on in life business and new business.

Business Review Pack and MI

  • Preparation of monthly Board Pack and individual Practice Business Review Packs.
  • Development and preparation of cost centre reporting – as far as possible based on automated PowerBi outputs.
  • Standardise reports and minimise time spent on preparation of regular reporting.

Analysis

  • Based on an inquisitive mind-set analyse business performance and ask the “what if” questions e.g., are operational resources appropriately distributed etc. etc.
  • Review organisational structure and effectiveness.
  • Review and understand the sales pipeline, to ensure it is accurate, and identify themes e.g., win rates, reasons for losses etc.

Forecasting

  • Run the forecasting (short to long term) process and related models.
  • development of sensitivity analysis.

Other

  • Represent Finance on IT system implementations e.g., Finance BI system implementation.
  • Identify areas for process and systems improvement.
  • Ad hoc analysis for specific business projects.
  • M&A support.

All about You

Experience and Competencies

  • Proven track record with significant commercial and finance experience
  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA)
  • Excellent Excel skills, Power BI also preferable
  • Track record in driving business performance
  • Excellent relationship building skills
  • Good understanding of the SaaS business model
  • Preferably and understanding of the software technology market and competitors/suppliers
  • Excellent influencing skills

Skills and Aptitudes

  • This is a complex role in respect of personal relationships and being the finance support for an area, whilst ensuring appropriate governance and control is in place. It therefore requires a person who has strong interpersonal skills, but also has the ability to hold their ground when under pressure.

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the whole company in a consistent and positive manner.
  • Ability to deliver practical solutions and drive genuine business improvements.
