We are seeking a Software Engineer (SWE3), Backend (India) to join our remote-first team. This role focuses on building and scaling backend services that power Karat’s platform and interview workflows for a global audience.

Software Engineer (SWE3), Backend (India) — Remote

What you’ll do

Design, implement, test, and maintain backend services and APIs with a focus on scalability and reliability.
Collaborate with product, frontend, and infrastructure teams to deliver robust features.
Write clean, well-documented code and unit/integration tests.
Optimize performance, monitoring, and incident response.
Contribute to system architecture decisions and drive engineering best practices.

What we’re looking for

3+ years of backend software development experience.
Proficiency in one or more modern backend languages (e.g., Python, Node.js, Java, Go).
Experience building scalable APIs, databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL), and cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure).
Familiarity with testing, CI/CD, and containers (Docker/Kubernetes).
Strong problem-solving skills, good communication, and collaborative mindset.
Remote-first mindset and ability to work effectively with distributed teams.

Location & Work Model

Remote with a focus on candidates located in India (Bangalore area is supported by the posting). This is a remote position, open to India-based engineers.

About this role

This is a backend-focused role within Karat’s engineering organization. You will own backend components and APIs that power the Karat platform and help scale our interview workflow for customers worldwide.
