Senior Director of Software Engineering — Karat (Remote, United States)

Karat is seeking a Senior Director of Software Engineering to lead and scale our software organization from a remote location across the United States. This senior leadership role will set the technical direction, build high‑performing teams, and collaborate with product, design, and executive leadership to deliver robust, scalable interview technology.

What you will do

• Lead and mentor multiple software engineering teams responsible for Karat's platform and related services.
• Define and drive the technical strategy, architecture, and coding standards for scalable, secure systems.
• Collaborate with product management to define roadmaps and translate business needs into engineering plans.
• Champion best practices in software development, testing, CI/CD, release management, and incident response.
• Recruit and develop top engineering talent; foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
• Partner with security, reliability, and privacy teams to ensure data protection and compliance.

What you need

• 8+ years of engineering leadership experience and multiple years managing managers.
• Deep experience with distributed systems and microservices architecture.
• Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and modern deployment strategies.
• Strong software design skills, including performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across product, design, and executive teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

• Experience in interview technology or assessment platforms.
• Familiarity with Karat’s domain and customer-facing software.
