We are looking for a Senior Mobile Developer to work alongside our balanced agile delivery teams on highly complex DoD projects, specifically the development of command and control (C2) software for mobile platforms. Hypergiant, with its partners, is building an innovative cloud-based command and control system that seamlessly integrates existing capabilities and provides automation that improves the efficiency and effectiveness of mission planning and execution. A perfect candidate is able to write high-quality code, integrate with partner capability providers, and ensure code and product quality. This position will work alongside our development team and other capability providers on highly complex DoD projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop Android applications and plugins for the ATAK/TAK ecosystem
  • Implement geospatial data visualization and mapping functionality in an ATAK-based application
  • Integrate with multiple data sources and use ATAK and web-native communication protocols
  • Collaborate with UX/UI designers to create intuitive tactical interfaces
  • Ensure applications meet security requirements and compliance standards
  • Support deployment and maintenance of applications in operational environments
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of reusable component libraries and shared codebase
  • Write high-quality code, applying best practices, coding standards, and design patterns
  • Participate in the entire software development lifecycle, including requirement gathering, design, development, testing, and deployment, using an agile, iterative process
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure code quality through effective testing strategies
  • Collaborate with developers, designers, testers, project managers, product managers, and project sponsors
  • Team with other developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 8+ years of professional mobile software development experience (5+ with a STEM B.S.)
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience developing applications or plugins for the Android Team Awareness Kit / Android Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK) environment
  • Able to develop organized, accessible, and performant apps using Java and Kotlin
  • Solid understanding of the ATAK SDK, Android Studio, and plugin architecture
  • Proficient with version control systems (e.g., Git) and effective collaborative development workflows
  • Experience managing robust build (e.g., Gradle) & test tools, implementing workflow automations, and managing dependencies
  • Demonstrated familiarity with cloud platforms and deployment strategies (cloud architect or operations certification is a plus)
  • Understanding of multi-threading, asynchronous programming, and Android security concepts
  • Must be a US Citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain a US DOD Security Clearance.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with developing applications for CivTAK / WinTAK, or managing and deploying TAK Server
  • Experience developing progressive web applications (PWA) or "touchscreen friendly" native applications
  • Experience with CoT (cursor on target) message format or related protocols
  • Experience developing React applications in Typescript and/or Javascript
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and WebGL based libraries (e.g., ThreeJS, Deck.gl, Mapbox GL JS)
  • Familiarity with security and data protections concepts and methods
  • Geospatial information systems (GIS) experience (e.g., PostGIS, GeoServer)
  • Familiarity with cloud-native geospatial data formats like KML, geoJSON, geoParquet, geoArrow
  • Knowledge of military standards and protocols (MIL-STD, STANAG)
  • Experience with hardware integration (GPS, sensors, radios)
  • Experience with real-time data streaming and WebSocket implementations
  • Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, and containerization technology (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • A portfolio of past projects with code samples or GitHub links
  • Previous experience in aerospace, defense, or critical infrastructure sectors
  • Penchant for learning new technologies, balanced with strong pragmatic thinking
  • Ability to make effective architecture decisions and document them clearly
  • Design-minded attention to detail in user interface implementation
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Active US DOD Security Clearance
